Art Exhibit – “Moments Past and Present: Scenes from My Life”
Many of the pieces in this show have been inspired by photographs taken of the people and places in the artist’s life. Each picture was created to capture a fond memory, or because the subject matter was personally meaningful. Some pictures are places Cathy has visited with her husband or family, while others depict nearby scenes. The artist has used acrylic paint, charcoal, watercolor and pastels, with varied success. The reason she decided to share her art is to encourage others to jump in and try to create using whatever means is available. Her message is to not worryabout the final product but see if you too find joy in the process. Her first art class was after she retired in 2017, and thanks to the support of wonderful teachers and classmates, art has opened up a brand-new venue. The artist remains surprised how much fun can be had by trying something new!
About the artist: Cathy started making art after she retired from teaching in 2017. She has taken both online and in-person classes, in a variety of mediums. She was lucky enough to find Upstate Oasis, a haven for senior citizens who love to learn. There she took acrylic classes with Evelyn Fiorenza, and continues to take watercolor, pastel, and topic-based classes from Jean Somlo. She also thoroughly enjoyed auditing an OCC drawing class with Donnalee Pedan-Wesley. During Covid, she took classes with Patty Mollica and Jed Dorsey. Previously, she won the Safety Patrol poster contest in fifth grade and took some art classes both in high school and college. The majority of her creativity in adult years was used up in surviving parenthood raising two children and teaching a multitude of elementary aged students. She is very grateful for the new creative energy which accompanied retirement. Some of the works on display are for sale. If you are interested in discussing pricing and delivery, please contact Cathy: her contact information is available by asking the adult services librarian, Sarah.
