Location: Salmon River Fine Arts Center 2D Studio
Instructor: Kimberly Rossiter
Age: Adult (18+)
Class size limit: 8 students
The focus of this class is to familiarize students with oil painting. The instructor will explore and dispel the myths and misconceptions about oil paint in order to give students confidence and knowledge to safely use this medium to their full potential. Attention will also focus on using a limited palette of 3 primary colors plus white. We will tone our canvas with acrylic paint and transfer our images onto the toned canvas (no drawing skills needed). Students will learn about the importance of blocking in, values and edges through a step-by-step process to achieve a completed oil painting. Students should have a small 5” x 7” painting completed at the end of the workshop.
Students should bring a 5”x7” image that they would like to paint. The image should be a simple image such as a cup, vase, simple flower, etc. Aprons or old clothes are highly recommended. All other tools and materials are provided, but students are welcome to bring their own brushes & 2 small jars with tight fitting lids for water and spirits.
This is an in-person class and masks are required. Register in person or online.
This discounted class is made possible through “Art for Challenging Times,” a grant generously funded by the John Ben Snow Foundation.
