Opening Art Show Reception - Arts & Minds: A Showcase for Creative Aging

You’re invited to celebrate the joys and benefits of art and art making in later life at the opening reception of Arts & Minds: A Showcase for Creating Aging at Wilson Art Gallery!

Do you believe older adults are beyond creative self-expression? In fact, our elders are often unbound from the rules that can limit creativity earlier in life. Visit the Arts & Minds Showcase of works by older adults, with and without dementia, in various media: painting, mixed media, poetry, and more – and revitalize your attitude to aging! A short video is offered depicting the benefits to opening the spirit to aesthetic and meaningful self-expression in later life, and tells stories of how elder artists achieve purpose, meaning and self-validation as they are freed to develop artistic skills and capacity.

Join SJFS and some of the artists represented in the exhibit at an opening reception offered by Le Moyne on January 13 from 6-7:30pm. The reception is free and open to the general public.

Curated by Syracuse Jewish Family Service, Arts& Minds: A Showcase for Creating Aging is at the Wilson Art Gallery at Le Moyne College from January 12 - March 27, 2026. The showcase has been traveling throughout Central New York to demonstrate the limitless power of creativity and to disrupt ageism. It is made possible through the CNY Arts Grants for Regional Arts and Cultural Engagement regrant program and administered by the New York State Council on the Arts, as well as the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, the Slutzker Family Foundation, Leonard and Irwin Kamp Family Foundation and many individual donors and corporate sponsors.
