The Pride of the Orange: 125 Years of the SU Marching BandFrom its founding in 1901 with 23 members to the “100 Members and a Girl” in the 1940s, to the present-day band of around 200 members, the band has represented Syracuse on the football field, around town, and at national and international events. “The Pride of the Orange: 125 Years of the SU Marching Band” engages with the music and visuals that make such performances possible through archival imagery, records, objects and personal anecdotes. We hope you come and celebrate 125 years of Syracuse University Marching Band pride.
Salt City Responds The arts have long been utilized to engage the public with work that calls out injustice, rallies against tyranny, holds governments accountable and gives voice to the silenced. Artists living and working in the city of Syracuse are no exception. “Salt City Responds” highlights examples of this output, from public murals to folk music performances and printed protest banners. The exhibition presents a selection of works that illustrate the historic and ongoing support and output that define our community as a hub of cultural democracy.
The Words Stuck In Your Throat Have Grown Teeth Merging ancestral, indigenous regalia and motifs with contemporary silhouettes, this solo exhibition, “The Words Stuck In Your Throat Have Grown Teeth,” by Cali M. Banks, touches on intergenerational transmission of knowledge and the adaptability of tradition through alternative photographic processes. Cali M. Banks (Munsee Lenape/Scottish) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She holds an M.F.A. in interdisciplinary media arts practices from the University of Colorado Boulder and a B.A. in art and technology and global health studies from Allegheny College.
