Mad Scene is a nightmarish, interdisciplinary solo dance theatre work which radically embodies Nina's monologue from Chekhov's play “The Seagull”. Featuring choreography, solo performance and scenic design by Maya, set to a layered sound design and techno score created by the duo, with lighting and cinematography by Youssef, “Mad Scene” plunges audiences into Nina’s glitching mind and memory as she struggles to pull herself apart from her internal patriarchal voyeur. Possessed by an involuntary cycle of multisensory flashbacks and hallucinations which loop in slow, fast, and reverse motion, Nina desperately claws for a glimpse of herself from her own perspective. The piece reaches a climax as the line between reality and imagination shatters with an explosion of strobe light, sound, and shadow play. At the heart of the piece is a wild original electronic track fully produced by the duo, with aural textures ranging from foley recordings, to analog glitches and demonic techno.

The performance will be followed by a 15 minute talkback.
